Judging a Corporate Book by its Cover
“Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.” This saying is so well known, its practically a cliché. But what it actually means can be as fluid as the corporate environment you work in. If you don’t take your business outfit seriously, the people you work with may dismiss you as disorganized, or worse, a clown. How important is it to maintain a professional appearance? According to Business Insider Online. Even little details need to be addressed in your appearance. EXYRA knows the value of good appearance, and has created exquisite pairs of glasses for every type of outfit. There are several steps any well-groomed worker should be aware of. Physical characteristics, posture, and accessories all work together to create the perfectly groomed man or woman.
Physical characteristics of good grooming includes basic hygiene and clothing choices. The nicest suit you own cannot hold up against mussed hair or dirty fingernails. No one is impressed by immaculate formalwear worn by someone with tuna fish on their breath. The reverse is also true. Your hair could be perfect, teeth clean, feeling great, but if you show up to your interview in a ACDC shirt and cargo shorts, you’re not going to get the job. Make you’re your hair is trimmed, your teeth are clean, and you smell fresh and sparkling. There is more to being well groomed then what you look like, however. How you carry yourself is just as important as what you’re wearing.
According to recent studies conducted out of the University of Minnisota, more than half of communication is non-verbal. How you say something is more important than what you are saying. If your appearance and posture say that a job isn’t important, others will respond in kind. However, if you show up well dressed, standing up straight, and looking people in the eye, others will respond favorably to your actions. If you take yourself seriously, others will as well. The second part of carrying yourself well is common courtesy and being well spoken. Formal and casual speech in the internet age are blending together. Yet the difference still remains. Causal work environments are becoming more and more normal, according to NBC, but it’s still a bad idea to be the least well-spoken one in the group.
Your accessories can make or break an outfit. If you walk into an office with a wallet chain, you either need to leave it at home, or go back to the 1980s. If your style is all about multiple piercings and tattoos, keep that in your off hours. Your tattoo sleeves are wonderful for the nightlife, but in office life, grab the long sleeves.
How you present yourself in the business environment is everything. EXYRA has the key to eye health and good looks. Make sure every part of your outfit, from your suit jacket to your watch, is the best that it can be. You don’t need to sacrifice good looks for eye health.
